Breaking Down Barriers: Atlanta Nonprofit Launches Certified Training for Solar Panel Installation
In a groundbreaking move, Black Sustainability, Inc. (BSI) has partnered with Ayika Solutions Inc. and ReGen Community Advisory, Inc. to launch the Installation Basics Training (IBT) program in partnership with national nonprofit GRID Alternatives. This innovative initiative aims to expand clean energy workforce development in Southwest Atlanta by providing hands-on training for entry-level careers in solar and clean energy.A Community-Centered Approach
The IBT program is rooted in community leadership and local relationships, ensuring that trusted community-based organizations drive engagement, shape programming, and connect residents to sustainable career pathways. This approach recognizes the importance of building trust and fostering a sense of ownership among community members, particularly those often overlooked by traditional workforce systems.
Hands-On Training for a Brighter Future
Participants in the IBT program receive comprehensive instruction in solar photovoltaic system installation and design, OSHA 10 safety certification, electrical fundamentals, energy efficiency principles, and workforce readiness. Upon completion, graduates earn industry-recognized certifications and gain direct access to employment pathways in solar installation, maintenance, and related technical fields.
A New Model for Workforce Development
The IBT program represents a new model for workforce development, where community-based organizations drive engagement and shape programming. This approach has the potential to create lasting change by connecting residents to green collar opportunities, expanding clean energy access, and strengthening the fabric of the community.
A Collective Effort
The success of the IBT program is a testament to the power of collaboration. BSI, Ayika Solutions Inc., ReGen Community Advisory, Inc., and GRID Alternatives are working together to create a sustainable future for Southwest Atlanta's residents. This collective effort demonstrates a shared commitment to long-term outcomes and a willingness to challenge traditional workforce development models.
The launch of the IBT program marks an exciting milestone in the journey towards a more sustainable and equitable energy landscape.
